We are Women In Nature Management
Focusing on grassroot communities, committed to the environment.
Our History
Winam Grassroots CBO is a multi-faceted organization that works within the Lake Region and beyond together with women, youths, organized groups and other likeminded stakeholders
Women are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change, primarily because they lack ownership and control over critical assets. This economic injustice and inequality significantly hinder their ability to thrive as leaders, caretakers, and businesspeople. Recognizing these challenges, Winam Grassroots was established to support women at the grassroots level who have been repeatedly exposed to disasters, particularly flooding in the Kano Plains. These floods have displaced thousands of women, children, and elderly individuals, leaving them vulnerable and with little to no support from the government or humanitarian organizations over the years.
Winam Grassroots has positioned itself as a champion for addressing the challenges faced by grassroots communities. Through community engagement and policy advocacy, the organization actively works to influence development agendas that impact these communities. By participating in budget processes, Winam Grassroots aims to secure resources for initiatives that support nature conservation, the blue economy, agriculture, and gender equality. These efforts are aimed at bridging the significant gaps in rural development and addressing resource inequalities that limit women’s ability to excel in leadership and entrepreneurship.
Winam Grassroots remains committed to amplifying the voices of grassroots women, driving sustainable development, and ensuring equitable access to opportunities and resources. Through its strategic initiatives, the organization envisions a future where women can thrive as leaders, innovators, and contributors to their communities.
